Day 12

Ephesians 1:3
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”

What is “the thing” that you have in your life that you think you need in your life in order to be happy? Is it money, fame, relationships? The first thing we need to understand is that whatever “the thing” is in your life, it’s not real. It’s a fantasy. It’s placing our deep longing for happiness to the idea that a person or thing could fulfill that desire, rather than God or His promises. That is why social media can be so dangerous. We are constantly reminded on what we don’t have, who we are not, and where we haven’t been. It places this idea in us that life is all about possessing something that we don’t currently have. But social media isn’t the root to our problems. The fear that we have of missing out comes from inside of us (James 4:1-2) and that is why Jesus tells us that it is so important for us to guard ourselves from our own desires. How can we do that? Listen to Jesus because He has the words of life. Preach to yourself and don’t listen to “the thing.” Fast from whatever “the thing” is in your life, whether that be social media or something else. Because this fantasy of “the thing” will never bring you satisfaction, it will always leave you wanting more. But when you seek God and His promises from your life, you will always be content.
