Day 7 | Do you have power?

2 Corinthians 4:7
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the POWER may be of God and not of us” (NKJV)

On the subject of power, we find that there are many types of power referenced in the Word of God. And although we can use the context of each verse to donate the subtitles of meaning, there is a greater frontier of knowledge found in the original language. The Bible is always best at interpreting itself. Because the Bible was not originally written in English, there is a sea of understanding we can cross by going back to the origin. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and the New Testament in Greek. The saying, lost in translation does apply regarding the limitation of the English language.

For instance, in English, we have one word for love. This word is used to describe everything from a beautiful sweater at the mall to God’s pure love towards us. In the Greek language, there are many names for love; eras means sensual love, agape is the love of God toward mankind and phileo is friendship love. We have a similar dilemma with the word POWER. There are at least four Greek words the Bible that translators have interpreted as power in English.

The great news for us is that we can tap into various types of power available for different areas of need and challenge in our lives. The first manifestation of power we will study is found in Acts 1:8, “but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and all Judea and Samaria.”
The Greek word interpreted power in this verse is the word DUNAMIS. It means, “miraculous might.” Dunamis is the same root word from which we get dynamite. I don’t think we need a lengthy description of the manifestation of this kind of power. The word dynamite says it all.

When we receive the power of the Holy Spirit, the strongholds in our lives are easily dismantled and destroyed. The nature of miracles will attend this kind of power. An explosive, defied power is present with the Holy Spirit to work miracles on our behalf! This type of power is available for every believer who receives the work of the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:8 brings light to the reason for this power. It exists to make us witnesses of Jesus Christ throughout the Earth!
Dunamis power is not only available, but accessible to every believer, every day through the Holy Spirit!
