Day 4 | Feast or Famine?

It is vital in times of famine that we know what to do. Worn down and weary, we can make the wrong move. This is so important for us to know! We can run, like those who have no covenant, searching for a wellspring when God has provided one right under our feet! Elijah and Isaac heard the voice of God in the time of famine and through obedience and dedication, were able to THRIVE. Thriving is the elevated form of surviving!

Read Genesis 26:1-6, 12-18.
Our story of Isaac begins with famine as many great stories do. Isaac is the promised seed of Abraham, but his circumstances have taken a turn for the worst. His situation didn’t change his identity, but he might as well have, because he forgot whose he was.

Famine produces forgetfulness – Although Isaac was Abraham’s son, he had forgotten God was his provider.

Famine produces fear - When the famine took its toll, Isaac began to look to Egypt for an answer.

There are many types of famine:
Famine for friends.
Famine for fellowship.
Famine for faith.
Famine for family.
Famine for Finance.

We must not turn.

When God spoke, Isaac did three things in obedience:
HE stayed. (verse 6)
HE sowed. (verse 12)
He rebuilt. (verse 18)
The Bible tells us that the Philistines filled the wells with dirt. Abraham is known as the father of the faith. If we use the word faith in place of Abraham’s name in this story, we see a common tactic our enemy uses against us. When FAITH dies, the world (flesh) will fill up your wellspring.

Isaac’s inheritance had been stopped up and blocked because his FAITH was absent. When Isaac connected with his father’s FAITH, his inheritance was revealed. He was sustained and blessed in the time of famine. Like Isaac, stay where God placed you. Sow in time of famine!

Famine is a season designed to elevate the children of God. It is a time when covenant children, promised seed, can forget who they are and what they have. When the circumstances around us evidence of a family, it can be challenging to walk in obedience, but famine is an opportunity for God to turn everything around in your favor!
