Day 18 | Noble Things

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things.
A noble thought is a concentration on the desire to please God by walking fully in His design for your life. It is the hope to hear, “Well done, good and faithful one.” To think of noble things is the longing to do the right things, for the right reasons, in the right manner.
The definition of noble: possessing outstanding qualities, admirable, of an esteemed quality or excellence.

There is a heroic and selfless connotation in the meaning of the word noble. I want to take the selfless angle of the definition in the application of our meditation on whatever things are noble. I believe that noble thinking is the key to unlocking the mental chains of unworthiness that have so many bound.

Choosing to meditate on the noble, acknowledges the mandate to abandon the daily meditation on our inadequacies!
If to be noble is to be selfless, then we must let go of the limitations of our personal identities and take possession of the outstanding qualities made available to our spirit man. There is a more noble cause for our thoughts than the vexation of our limitations! We can go higher if we would push aside the ignoble flesh that stands in the sunshine of God’s brightest assignment for our lives.

Self-centered mental energy is a renewable resource that ultimately backfires. Concentrating and meditating on ourselves creates an internal spiraling staircase that only leads inward and downward, and ends in collapse. We were not designed to be the center of our own existence. Placing ourselves in the middle of our meditation arranges a vortex around us of consuming criticism, destined to destroy. The way up and out of this cycle is by meditating on things about us, not things in or around us.

Colossians 3:2
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
